Strong cow market no flash in pan
After gaining up to 40c/kg last week, the cow market remained high today despite being roughly one third of the 1950 head yarding. The best of the cows today sold to 279c/kg, compared to 270c/kg last week for Charolais cows sold by IML. The MLA reported most categories as dearer, except light weight background steers and heifers.
Highlights in the sale included a draft of 179, 13-16 month old, Outwest Angus blood, mixed sex sold by Elders on account M O Brien, ‘’Gerwa” Quambone. 120 steers sold to 396c/kg and averaged 371c/kg and $1420/head. The 59 heifers sold to 337c/kg and averaged 334c/kg and $1347/head.
