Store cattle numbers halve, prices rise
After a slow start, the market picked up considerably after the first lane with The National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) quoting dearer trends across most categories.
Steers sold to 1330 for outstanding quality, 8-9 month old Angus steers, straight off their mothers. The best yearling heifers sold to $1150 with average prices well up on 2 weeks ago. Limited cows and calves sold to $1810 and a draft of 90 Santa x PTIC cows and 60 Speckle Park x PTIC sold on account Umrum Pastoral Co sold to $1460 for the Santa x and $1400 for the Speckle Park.
Ray White Livestock agent, Scott Simshauser said that it was a good quality of store cattle with steer prices around $150 dearer than last week with the majority selling $900 -$1200 range. The majority of heifers suitable for crop or feedlot sold from $900-$1150 and while heifers were dearer than last week, they were still heifers that were viable.
