Supply halves, cows as much as 40c/kg dearer

There were some positive signs in the market today with export cattle and cow prices very strong. TLA Vice President, Tim Hollis, said that, despite a good oat season, rising interest rates and cost of living has kept supply high as producers to try manage their bottom line. This increased supply has “dampened” the market over recent weeks but weekend rain, and a reduced yarding of 1136 cattle, helped to temporarily turn that around. The MLA reported that weaners were keenly sought and posted strong gains….and the biggest improvement in the market was for cows where trends were as much as 40c/kg dearer.” The best of the cows sold to 270c/kg.
